Home Reading Programme
As part of our continued commitment to literacy and academic excellence, all Year 7 students participate in a Home Reading Programme designed to promote regular, meaningful engagement with a wide range of literature.
The aims of this initiative are threefold:
- To elevate students’ reading abilities through regular exposure to diverse and challenging texts, better preparing them for their academic futures.
- To increase the number of students reading daily, developing strong reading habits that extend beyond the classroom.
- To enhance our students’ love of reading, encouraging curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong passion for books.
This policy complements the high-quality reading experiences your child is already enjoying through our Tutor Reading Programme, and is an important step towards our goal of becoming recognised as a Reading School across Cornwall and beyond.
How It Works:
- Students will read for 20–25 minutes at home each day.
- After reading, they will complete a short, 5-minute activity based on what they have just read. Students will be able to choose from one of four engaging tasks, allowing for personal choice and creativity.
- These activities will be recorded in a Home Reading Log, submitted via Microsoft Forms. This will automatically generate a report for each tutor to track progress.
- Tutors will monitor the programme to ensure that every student is participating consistently, and to celebrate achievements in reading.
Our aim is that, by the end of Year 7, all students will be competent and fluent readers, fully equipped to access the wider curriculum with confidence.
