SJS Greenpower Team Thrive at Goodwood - May 2015

A group of students have been working hard since October to design and build a Greenpower electric racing car, to race in the Greenpower Formula 24 race series, where teams from all around the country and abroad come together to race at some of the top circuits around the UK.

We have just completed our first race at the prestigious circuit of Goodwood.  Preparations for the race continued right up to the last minute when we had an unexpected problem with the brake light.  The team worked furiously to get the car through scrutineering, which it did with a full sheet of ticks and a report of the brakes being the best of any race car at the event.

Track action was swift with cars taking the excellent weather conditions as a chance to really test their vehicles for the up and coming race season.  Some cars found weaknesses and returned to the pits on the back of the recovery vehicle, needing further developments.  Thankfully, ‘Retro Rocket’ avoided such issues, being on the pace with the top cars of its class.

SJS pit area was a hive of activity throughout the lunch break, with barely a team member getting a bite of their pasties for lunch.

All team members that wanted to drive got to drive this fantastic track, setting respectable times and gaining much experience for the races to come over the next month.

The team is keen to build on the success of this event by developing the car and the skills of the team in preparation for the county heat at Newquay.

A big thank you to all the parents who helped get the car to the track, supply equipment and act as team members throughout the weekend, and the sponsors which helped us get to this stage in preparing for the current season:  ADP Tools, Dairy Crest, Kernow Properties and Highfield Motors.  We’re currently looking for further sponsors to help us succeed in all we want to achieve in this racing season.
